It is a fundamental principle of Board Service that Boards protect investors.  As a practical matter, this only happens when Boards also provide real value to the operating leaders inside the companies they serve, and especially the CEO.  This panel examines what the best Boards can do to improve the companies that they serve.  Our panelists are all current and former CEOs and also current Board members themselves.

Joe Burton

Joe Burton is an accomplished CEO and transformational leader in the high tech arena, with recognized expertise in networking, unified communications, big data/analytics/machine learning, consumer electronics, SaaS, and IOT. A recognized Global transformational change executive, Mr. Burton has led public and private multibillion-dollar organizations in driving new product portfolios, go-to-market strategies, and innovative business models.  He was previously President and CEO at Poly, and VP/CTO at Cisco Systems. Mr. Burton is currently a Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company.

Moshe Gavrielov

Moshe Gavrielov is former President, CEO & Director at Xilinx, Inc.  Prior to joining Xilinx, Mr. Gavrielov served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the fast-growing verification division at Cadence Design Systems. Before that, he spent several years as CEO of Verisity, Ltd. Mr. Gavrielov is currently a member of the board of directors at TSMC, SiMa.ai, Wind River, and Foretellix.

Penny Herscher

Penny Herscher is an experienced technology CEO, based in Silicon Valley, who took her first company, Simplex Solutions, public and then sold it to Cadence Design Systems in 2002. She was President & CEO of two technology companies, Simplex and FirstRain, over the last 20 years. She is a mathematician and marketeer, CEO and coach, who has deep expertise in leadership, enterprise GTM, governance and executive compensation, in M&A and public company structural change (spins), in leading large teams and building startups from the ground up.  Ms. Herscher serves on four public company boards: Lumentum, Faurecia SA, PROS and Verint Systems and two private company boards: Delphix and Modern Health.

Michael Hurlston

Michael Hurlston is President and CEO to the Board of Directors of Synaptics. Before joining Synaptics, Mr. Hurlston was the CEO at Finisar Corporation where he was also a member of the Board of Directors.  Prior to Finisar, he served as senior vice president and general manager of the Mobile Connectivity Products/Wireless Communications and Connectivity Division at Broadcom Limited, as well as other senior leadership positions in sales, marketing and general management. Mr. Hurlston is a member of the board of directors of Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. and Vilynx Inc.
