Former United States Attorney,
Southern District of New York
He has been called “the man who terrifies Wall Street” and is arguably as famous for being fired as he is for his impressive legal accomplishments. Preet Bharara is an aggressive prosecutor who was removed from his post as U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York when he refused to resign under the current administration. Fortunately, we booked him for this dinner before that infamous incident!
Now known for going after financial fraud and public corruption, he began his career as a litigation associate doing white-collar defense work. As the Assistant U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, he brought criminal cases against bosses of the Gambino and Colombo crime families. And as a federal prosecutor, he has extradited suspected arms dealers, narcotics traffickers, and terrorists from over twenty-five countries.
Since 2009, Preet Bharara has prosecuted nearly 100 Wall Street executives for insider trading and has closed multibillion-dollar hedge funds for illegal activities. He has reached historic settlements and fines with the four largest banks in the country. And he has written about the threat that cybercrime poses to private industry.
Preet has a A.B. in Government from Harvard University and a J.D. from Columbia School of Law. He is returning to academia as a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the NYU School of Law.
We are honored to welcome Preet Bharara to our SVDX/Rock Center Year-End Dinner.
Thank you for another great year!
